Meeting Notes

January, 2008

Michael Barber, PVAS 2008 President opened the meeting with a short statement of appreciation to the nominating committee and the membership for the foresight in electing Ron Leftwich as Vice President.

A financial statement presentation covered the 2007 PVAS account and an update to the All Aquarium Catfish Convention account. Of note is that PVAS will donate $1,100 to Project Amazonas to establish a scholarship (a formal announcement regarding the scholarship is forthcoming). An update on AquaFest 2008 indicates PVAS made money in spite of the fact that the fee structure was set to break even.

Your 2008 Board of Directors has ambitious plans for 2008. The list of 2008 speakers was "revealed" to those in attendance. Many of the speakers are from out of town. PVAS is working with other clubs to share the speakers while they are here. PVAS members will get a chance to meet and greet some of the out-of-town speakers in members-only events. A call for the creation of a Field Trip committee followed a presentation of already coordinated field trips for the coming year, club members seemed responsive to this idea. Of note is the Amazon Collecting trip with Margarita Tours in August. Another topic presented was the October 16-19 "Expedition Amazon" All Aquarium Catfish Convention. PVAS needs all members to step up as volunteers to make AACC 2008 a success. This is our major fund raiser. Please look for an email from the PVAS President for chances to volunteer and help with the Catfish Convention.

The meeting concluded with the drawing for the door prize, raffle and monthly auction.
