Spawning Report: Xiphophorus maculatus/Blue Wag Platy

Well, that was quick! We just picked this pair up on Sat. January 2nd and noticed that the female was looking a little thinner at feeding time yesterday. Upon further inspection, we spotted a few fry hiding out near the substrate and a clump of Java moss. I collected 13 and moved them to another tank to grow out.

pH: 7.4

General Hardness: 158 ppm (moderately hard)

Average Temperature: 74◦ F

Average Nitrate: 0 ppm

Aquarium Size: 20” X 10” X 12” and 10 Gallons

Water Source: Fairfax tap

Water Changes: 1/3 per week

Filtration System: Sponge

Décor:

Live Plants: Anubias, Cryptocoryne, Java Moss, & Guppy Grass

Small pieces of Texas holy rock

Substrate: generic natural colored medium sized gravel on top of CaribSea Flora Max

Lighting Type and Timing: Hanging utility fluorescent T8, 12hr on/12hr off

Food Fed to Parents and How Often: Flake, frozen daphnia, and/or live black worms 1-2 times a day.

Food Fed to Fry and How Often: crushed flake twice a day and any micro-organisms available in java moss/guppy grass clumps from well-established tank.



Moved the fry to an established 15-gallon tank with sand substrate, a large clump of guppy grass, a sponge filter, and temperature near 80◦ F.
