Chesapeake Bay Oyster Reef Biotope Aquarium Update

Hi Everyone.

My expensive Ecotech Radion XR30 Pro LED light crapped out on me after 2 years of use, so sorry for the rough lighting in this video. It made my tank beautiful while it worked, but now it's a pile of junk. I'm going to send it back for repair, but of course, I bought it in 2014 and the warranty had expired long ago even though I didn't start using it until 2022. I'm really disappointed. We'll see what happens with the repair saga. If the results aren't satisfactory, then my next fixture will be another brand for sure.

About the tank. I collected a lot more hermit crabs and they really make the tank and bottom come alive. They're so active. I'm thrilled as I found several good collecting spots. I also collected an NPS whip coral (Leptogorgia virgulata) which is really cool. I guess my tank…

Xenotoca sp. ID

Hi

Awhile back I bought a group of what were sold as X. doadrioi, however at the latest monthly meeting I purchased some X. doadrioi Etzatlan and noticed the two groups looked a bit different. The male of the original group seems to lack the gold band of the X. doadrioi Etzatlan and the female seems to have a larger hump on her back and lacks spotting. Does anyone know if they are different species or just different localities?

Thanks

Male doadrioi should all have the gold band unless they are very unhappy. Based on your photos I would guess they are either eiseni or lyonsi (very difficult to tell apart by sight). Feed them good and keep them clean with water changes and see if they change and gold shows up on the males. It is very important to always include collection data when passing on fish if you have it,

CW051 Corys

Looking for information for a friend that just got some of these. Am I remembering right that there were some some in a PVAS auction awhile back? If so can anyone give me any tips on keeping and breeding that may be helpful. Thank you.

Why are my fish dying?

It started a week ago. First was one of seven pencilfish (4 coral reds, 2 elegant and a purple) rescued from Petco between 1/26 and 1/29. I think the next to die was one of the elegants. Didn't think too much of it until some of my established fishing started dying. Over the course of the first few days of this week I lost one of 3 albino bristlenose, 1 of ~10 CPD, all 5 of or 6 cardinal tetras (one I found on the floor (very limited spot to jump out), some others had been all or partially eaten by shrimp), also found one shrimp dried out on top of the glass lid, 1 of 4 peacock gudgeons, and more pencilfish. Tuesday I medicated with the API general cure and yesterday I did the second dose.

This morning I found a black neon tetra dead, though this one had…

One more CPD lost when I checked late last night. No more losses this morning. Everything looking good midday. Noticed my female albino cory swimming up and down at the front glass, then noticed her anal fins clamped. 🙂

A minute or two later she deposited two dozens eggs on the glass. I draped a spawning mop over them as some protection against getting eaten while they harden. I really need to get the eggs into the breeding tank. As much as Iike to move mom to it I don't want to introduce something.

That's wild.

The water changes weren't even cooler. I got it up to the same temp first. Hadn't done any feeding prep either.
