I am breaking down my 90 gallon tank (always freshwater) and will have to sell it. Fish going to a public aquarium. It's a well built glass tank with black corners (don't know the manufacturer) and it's 20 years old, but seems as solid as ever with no leaks. I wouldn't hesitate to keep using it as an aquarium. Glass top and fluorescent light. Aquaclear 110 hang-on-back filter plus a Fluval 406 canister filter. The stand it's on was custom made from solid pine, nicely finished and stained, a far cry from the fiberboard crap typically sold with tanks. Everything will be clean & in good working condition. Planning on advertising on CL and Facebook marketplace, but thought I'd post this here first.
1) What is a fair asking price for this setup? 2) Any offers for it? :-)
I appreciate everyone's input.
For what it’s worth, I sold a fairly used 6 year old 60g, just the tank, for $100 on CL last year- ended up taking $10 off since it had some scratches (unasked for by the buyer, I just felt bad). Sold within a day or so; I may have just gotten lucky to find a buyer. I could see larger tanks really only being of interest to people who have done their research, of course.
At 20 years old I wouldn't give money for the tank personally. On a newer 90 I'd give a max of $100. I paid $110 for a new 75g recently, no way I'd spend more for a little taller of a tank thats 20 years old.
Minimal scratches and have no idea if it needs a reseal. Maybe there never are signs until it's too late?
At 20 years old it will probably need a reseal pretty soon and likely has scratches. Many hobbyists consider old, used, large tanks to be more trouble than they're worth. You might be able to get more for it on Craigslist.

As a general rule of thumb for aquariums and stuff:
The big box stores sell brand new tanks for a buck a gallon, and unless yours is a particularly special size, brand, or something, a buck a gallon is generous. (If I can buy a brand new tank for what you're charging, why do I wanna buy your used tank). For tanks up to about a hundred gallons, I would charge between $0.25-0.50 a gallon, with the higher end being for a tank that's darn near new in appearance. If it's an older tank (as this one is), has scratches, etc., then the lower end of the range goes there.
Aquarium stands do not hold much value. They can add generally about 10-25 cents a gallon to the cost of the set-up, with the higher end being very good condition wooden, furniture stands and the lower end being scuffed or dinged, iron stands, etc. Home made stands should not be factored into the cost.
Things like lights, filters, and lids with a set-up can be used to round up prices a bit, but generally don't add anything. Older lights have no value, as most of their cost is in bulbs. Those need replacing. LEDs are a gamble for both seller and buyer -- you don't know how old they are and how long they'll last, no matter what you're told. As a good rule for those, if its under a year and looks brand new, you can get about half cost. Otherwise, just include it.
Higher end filters generally should be about 25-50% of their original cost, like a LED. Only if they're in really good condition.
Heaters should absolutely not be sold, and anyone who buys or uses a used heater is a ninny. :)
Oh. It's located in Alexandria, VA.
