I have another question for everyone related to my graduate research.
I am going to be looking for Japanese mystery snails this summer all throughout Northern Virginia. These are large invasive snails, much bigger than native snails around here, and are more commonly known in the pond segment of the hobby as Japanese trapdoor snails. Tricky things is the genetics on these guys is a bit questionable.
If you or someone you know have a population of these snails in a private pond or frequently order them for their pond I would be grateful to collect some for genetic testing. If you have them in your home aquarium that would be interesting too, but keep in mind they are not the same as what most of us know as mystery snails. They look more like this-
