Working on details for a May collecting trip to Florida.
Leave after the meeting on Saturday to arrive in Tampa on Sunday, 5 May 2019 with visits on Monday and/or Tuesday to a small independent fish farm; a manufacturer of ornamental fish shipping bags; and an industry leader for wholesale ornamental fish, supplying pet stores, public aquariums, and research institutions. Monday evening we attend the Tampa Bay Aquarium Society meeting. After several days collecting and visiting aquarium related destinations in the Tampa area travel down the west coast of Florida stopping at a few locations en route to the Miami area. While in the Miami area we visit one of the nation's leading producers of aquarium plants.
We will have notable local guides accompany us during this trip.
This is an at cost trip, pay as you go. Estimate at least $1,000 per person double occupancy, single occupancy will be about $500 more. I'm willing to drive van to Florida - best with no more than four plus gear in the van. If more are interested we will have to recruit someone else with a van/SUV to haul four plus gear.
If interested please post on this forum thread or send an email to Restazonia@gmail.com
Sorry - trip canceled.
Not enough true interest/commitment to make it a go.
Maybe next year?
Well some interest but not enough yet to make a go of it.
We need at least four willing to go for the full week to share overnight driving down and gas cost in one vehicle. Gerry is a another vehicle possibility if we need space to carry more gear if we get more than five. We had interest expressed from one member at the Feb meeting; however, she said her husband would insist on driving. So we can't count those two in the minimum.
Given the collecting spots, my suggestion is that we limit the trip to no more than six PVAS members or members from our fellow clubs--CCA and GWAPA.
We need to decide a GO or NO GO date in sufficient time to book hotels. BTW: May is the start of low season rates in Florida.
Interested, keep me posted. As I mentioned, if several are going, I could take my truck to house all the styros and coolers and gear on the truck bed, just a thought. Gerry
I'm interested work schedule permitting. I'd say it's unlikely but possible. If I can go I would have to fly down on Monday to catch up with you from the 50th JazzFest in NOLA. Yay!
I'm interested.
