The first batch of fry are ready to go. They are all Mercury fry from the pair pictured earlier in the post. There are about 60 of these fry. They are just starting to show their colors as you can see in the video I have attached here. They are first come.....first serve. Please contact me at onthetee@aol.com or 540-607-6575.
Some of the discus I got from Brett last year. There is at least one female- surprised to see eggs.
Thank you for all the help! Very excited about the future of these showpiece fish in our office.
Thank you for all the kind words Linus. Glad the discus are still doing well for you.
Thanks,
Brett,
I can vouch for the good quality of Brett’s discus. I’ve gotten two batches from him over a year ago. I’ll try to post pics later. I think his discus are of good genetic stock (as so far no HITH). I think his discus would be a good introduction to keeping discus as besides being healthy also affordable.
Hey there ....how are you? Discus would definitely, be good for that size tanks. I have kept, raised, and bred discus for close to 35 years. I am 51.....and I have had discus since I was 16. They are truthfully the king of the aquarium.
When raising them up.....it’s best to raise them in a group or school. They tend to not be as nervous and edgy as if there is only a couple in a tank. I have heard and read many recommendations on what is the perfect number of discus for a certain tank. Usually.....1 discus per 10 gallons.......is the recommendation when they are adults. The biggest factors I find are how much filtration is on the tank; how often are water changes done; and lastly the quality of the feedings. For a 60 gallon......I would recommend a group of 10......you are always going to have that a 1 or 2 that are slower growers. The hope would be to have a nice group of 6 to 8 once they are young adults.
At the two inch size......that’s when you can start to tell them apart......so that is one reason why I usually wait to sell them at that time. Let me know if you have any more questions and I could help you get started!!
Thanks,
Brett
I have a 60 gallon cube I am cycling, I have not kept discus before but really like the fact that these fry are acclimated to my water parameters. would Discus be appropriate to this size tank and if so how many? Also can you tell their coloration at two inches?
thanks,
christina
