I took home a goup of Mark K.'s Julidochromis ornatus from the December auction. While I was feeding fish last night I spent some time watching that tank and two of the fish have definitely paired up! Snapped a couple pics with the smaller male in back on the left and the larger female in front on the right:
There is a cavity excavated under the clay cave that you can just see to the left there and they have chased the rest of the fish in the tank out of the rock work, so here's hoping to see some fry/juveniles soon!
Spotted the first juveniles today. 😀
After doing some reading, it looks like I may have the identified sexes reversed above. The larger of the two fish seems more likely to be the male and the smaller the female for this species. Also, the larger fish seems to be doing most of the territory defense, while the smaller fish seems to stick closer to the excavated pit under the clay cave (my guess at where any eggs may have been laid).
