The best way to sterilize an aquarium is to use Clorox. The higher the concentration the quicker it kills everything. Rinse well and maybe use declor after the final rinse. Saturated salt solution (SSS) is also an option. wet all surfaces with SSS and repeat a couple of times rinse well Any residual salt is not a problem.

Their daily diet is just a good dried flake or micro-pellet that has about 40% protein. When I want them to spawn, I feed live foods like daphnia, microworms, and any live food I have on hand.

The classic way to make green water is to take a lettuce leaf and crush and then place it in a quart or more of water. Then place the jar or tank in direct sunlight in a window or outdoors for a week. The other classic way is to set a 10 gallon tank or larger with a couple of goldfish preferably outside and feed the fish as you normally would. You will have green water within a week or two.

For less risk, replace the sponge filter and treat the one with the black beard algae in a separate tank. I have been treating mine by using a water spray to remove as much external algae and debris from the sponge and then allowing it to dry for a couple weeks. I think the drying kills the algae. Lately I have been trying scuds. Scuds eat most soft plants including black beard algae. So I put the sponge in my scud tank and let them eat for a week. The problem then is that if you don't do something to the sponge to get rid of the scuds such as drying the sponge, placing the sponge back in service will also transfer scuds to that tank. Scuds can overrun a shrimp tank.

PVAS sell bags at all of their meetings at reasonable prices. I have know some people who bring fish an a bucket. Buy bags and then entered them in the auction.

Nicely done, Bob. I am sure I have fished with fathead minnows but did not know they were the same specie as the rosy reds. Mainly when I fished for crappies near underwater structure like submerged trees in big lakes. Are you selling any of these disease and parasite free fish?
