I have another question for everyone related to my graduate research. I am going to be looking for Japanese mystery snails this summer all throughout Northern Virginia. These are large invasive snails, much bigger than native snails around here, and are more commonly known in the pond segment of the hobby as Japanese trapdoor snails. Tricky things is the genetics on these guys is a bit questionable. If you or someone you know have a population of these snails in a private pond or frequently order them for their pond I would be grateful to collect some for genetic testing. If you have them in your home aquarium that would be interesting too, but keep in mind they are not the same as what most of us know as mystery snails. They look more like this-
Thank you! Daya

I have a small request for anybody doing any fish store hopping anytime soon. I started graduate school recently and my advisor and USGS took interest in the PSA about zebra mussels on marimo moss balls going around lately. Has anyone seen the moss balls available for sale anywhere lately? We want to check them for mussels.

Not mine but I saw this on my nextdoor feed. There are two small tanks loaded with guppies. I can message the guy for contact info if anyone wants them.

I'm researching about invasive invertebrates in Virginia and delving into the laws relevant to the topic when I come across this: 4VAC15-360-70. Prohibit the sale of crayfish species. It shall be unlawful to sell any species of crayfish (Superfamily Astacoidea) live as bait or for personal use, except for personal consumption. This says any crayfish, which I knew of some of them being illegal to sell from my time in aquarium stores, but this says ANY crayfish. I was under the impression that some of them were ok like the blue, vanilla, and dwarf varieties. Am I missing something here? Has every LFS I know been breaking this law?

It has gotten a bit too cold for the tub guppies kinda fast. They are not too happy about that. They are yellow orange and red and there are quite a few of them. Located in fairfax at penderview.

Reef Escape is an authorized dealer for Ultum Nature Systems. We are a small store though so carry very little of the products on hand. If anyone is interested in rimless tanks, hardscape, CO2 equipment, or other plant products in their line just let me know. If there is enough interest I can place an order and possibly even deliver to the following meeting (too close to next meeting so meeting after) or people can pick up at Reef Escape. We aren't just a reef store either so come visit us when you can!

The company I work for are looking for someone to make custom cabinets/panels for two aquariums that already have steel frame stands. They are 600 gallons and 350 gallons. This could also lead to other custom cabinet projects in the future. Either reply here or email Daya@reefescape.net
