I have 4 of these fish in a 5-gallon tank. I turned around the other day and one of the males was bright yellow and attempting to get a female to come into his cave: I took a look in the cave last night and it seems he was successful as he is definitely now guarding a batch of eggs:

A feeding of black worms, a 50% water change, and the addition of some Java moss to their tank triggered this group to start spawning today:

These snails are fun, very active when there is food available. I feed them Vallisneria cuttings, excess Salvinia minima, and Omega One Veggies Rounds for the most part. They occasionally get various blanched veggies too. Sizes available range from about a 1/2 inch - 2 inches in diameter.

These two are ready for a new home. Captive bred and raised eating micro pellets, freeze-dried black worms, along with various other frozen and live foods. Message if interested.

I picked up 2 of these snails at the Catfish Convention auction back in October and then 3 more during one of the recent monthly meeting mini-auctions. These snails are true aquatic plant eaters, I have been feeding mine vallisneria cutting and excess floating plants from other tanks. After the introduction of the additional snails and a heater swap in their tank, eggs were laid on the base of the new heater yesterday:

I have 6 cb juveniles left from a 2nd spawn, some pictured below. If anyone wants to try this fish out I can bring them to the Musical Fish Swap tomorrow, please PM me. Otherwise, I plan to put them into the All Day Spring Auction in April. I am currently feeding them frozen brine, live daphnia, bbs, and micro pellets. They love black or other small worms too, I just don't have any at the moment. These fish are bubble nesters, great for lower-light, tightly-covered (they are jumpers) planted tanks. Not to mention, displaying males in breeding dress are a pretty spectacular sight to see. I keep my 6 adults together in a species-only 20-gallon tank when not attempting to spawn them. - Lee

Food Fed to Fry and How Often: Same as parents plus, once I spotted them, alternating between vinegar eels, frozen rotifers, and frozen daphnia daily. Will start hatching live baby brine shrimp today to add to the rotation too. Female in back on the left: Male in front on the right: This pair formed out of a group that I picked up at the PVAS December 2022 mini-auction. Once I noticed that a pair had formed, I removed the other Golden Julies and added a group of juvenile blue wag platies as dithers. The pair excavated a space under the clay cave that can be seen to the left in the pictures above, which is my best guess at where the eggs were laid. I first spotted one of the fry/juveniles swimming upside down on Sat. 2/28/23 under the piece of green slate that is serving as the ceiling of the cave centered in the pictures above. That one can be seen to the left of the female in the picture below: I started target-feeding that area of the tank with fry-sized food the same day. On 2/19 I noticed more fry, about 6, on the ceiling of that same cave. The video below shows them moving around some shortly after adding some vinegar eels to the tank at the front of that cave:

I noticed that the dominant male disappeared into the pleco cave a few days back. I also saw him chase away the female once or twice while feeding the tank's residents. Unfortunately, the position I placed the cave in originally did not allow for easy viewing. Today I turned the cave around so that the opening is facing the front of the tank and took a look with a flashlight. He is definitely guarding a clutch of eggs as suspected, not sure exactly when they were laid, but seeing eyeballs in the pictures, it looks like the eggs may be close to hatching. I may set up a 5-gallon tank today with some water from the parent's tank and lots of java moss to move the cave into, with the male and eggs still inside. Male guarding the eggs: Female swimming by, looking for a snack: I moved the male, in his cave with the eggs - now brownish in color, a sign that they were close to hatching - to a bare bottom 5 gallon tank with Java moss, 1/2 an Indian Almond leaf and a sponge filter early evening on Fri, 2/17. Early morning on Sat, 2/18, the male was out of his cave hiding behind the sponge filter. After removing him back to his 10 gallon home and rinsing and removing the cave, I spotted multiple fry in the 5 gallon: Seeing that the fry seemed to be free swimming already, I added some vinegar eels to the tank for food:

I took home a goup of Mark K.'s Julidochromis ornatus from the December auction. While I was feeding fish last night I spent some time watching that tank and two of the fish have definitely paired up! Snapped a couple pics with the smaller male in back on the left and the larger female in front on the right: There is a cavity excavated under the clay cave that you can just see to the left there and they have chased the rest of the fish in the tank out of the rock work, so here's hoping to see some fry/juveniles soon!

New Year, need some new fish, right? I have been keeping an eye out on various stock lists to see if these guys would show up for a few years now. When they finally popped up as in stock at Dan's Fish, I quickly decided to order 8. Pictures are from shortly after being added to a tank today, they came in individually packed and in great condition. They have since really started to settle in and show a bit more color. Hoping to get more than one pair from this group! Lee
