Origin of Parents:  Tank raised

Approximate number of eggs or fry* roughly 40 fry observed initially

Date of Hatch or Birth*  unknown

Date of Free Swimming If Hatched:  I observed them leave the coconut hut on July 5, 2026

Aquarium Conditions:

pH 5.5

General Hardness: 10 ppm. 

kH : 40 ppm

Average Temperature (F) 72-82 depending on season

Salinity: None

Average Nitrate: less than 40 ppm.

Aquarium Size:  10 Gallon

Water Source:  Rockville town water purified using R/O system

Water Changes:  Every two months, 80-90% water change

Filtration System:  Sponge filter

Additives: none


Décor:

Live Plants:  Bolbitis, plus a couple india almond leaves to add tannins to the water

Hiding Places:  “Coconut” hut with a single hole

Substrate:  None

Lighting Type and Timing:  Home depot shop light, 14 hours light, 10 hours dark, however I put some black plastic on the tank cover to reduce the strength of the light.

 

Food Fed to Parents and How Often*   Tetramin flake food daily.  Live baby brine shrimp twice a week.  Live black worms as a treat every 2-3 weeks.

 

Breeding triggers:  None

 

Plan:  I am thinking about removing the parents to another tank shortly to avoid them preying on the fry
