Origin of Parents: Obtained from The Wet Spot on 11/24/24, Tank Raised


Approximate number of eggs or fry: Collected about 6 fry from the tank between 1/15-1/17, Collected 6 eggs 1/18/2025

Date of Hatch or Birth: 01/05/2025-01/18/2025

Date of Free Swimming If Hatched: 1/15/2025-present

Approx. Number of Fry at 30 Days: 2 Baby Fry from the first batch of eggs collected

Approx. Number of Fry at 60 Days Update on 3/18/2025


I have collected a new batch of eggs and going to list those on here as well. The first batch, a lot of the eggs ended up with fungus as they were new parents.

Aquarium Conditions:

pH: 6.5

General Hardness: 300ppm

Average Temperature: 72-74 F

Salinity: none

Average Nitrate: 25-50ppm

Aquarium Size: 10 Gallon Tank

Water Source: Cistern, Hagerstown MD

Water Changes: 20-25% weekly water change

Filtration System: Sponge Filter

Additives: Easy Green, Easy Iron, Easy Potassium


Décor:

Live Plants: Hornwort

Wood: Spider Wood x2

Leaves: Catappa Indian Almond Leaves

Caves or Similar Hiding Places

Spawning mop: Spawning mop was just added on 1/17/2025, before eggs were amongst the hornwort. I realized they were ready to breed when I found a few babies at the top of the tank! So I switched over and then collected additional eggs today.


Substrate Fluval Plant and Shrimp Stratum

Lighting Type and Timing: Aquarium Co-op LED Light, Timer lights on from 6:30am-11:00am then again from 3pm-7:30pm


Food Fed to Parents and How Often Twice a day feeding. Consists of Aquarium Co-op Magic Small Fish Feed, Easy Fry and Small Fish Food, Live Baby Brine Shrimp, Frozen Baby Brine, Frozen Daphnia. Use a mortar and pestle to grind up a mixture of Spirulina Flakes, Pellets, and Krill Flakes from multiple places and feed as well.

Food Fed to Fry and How Often: Twice a day, Hikari First Bites, same dry food as parents grinded down in mortar and pestle, live baby brine shrimp, Magic Small Fish Feed.

New Spawning Mops added into the tank with the spawning group. I collected 6 eggs today and added them to the grow out tank. Separate 2.5 gallon tank. Holds the hornwort from the spawning tank and a nano sponge filter. Also included some baby orange shrimp in the grow out tank as well to help clean up the bottom of the tank.


New Eggs in small container with Indian Almond Leaves to help with fungus control (For the 2nd batch of eggs)
