Spawning Report: Ancistrus L-519

I purchased a group of these fish from a seller at the Keystone Clash in September 2025.

Placed the fish in a heavily planted 40 Breeder with dirt capped with sand as the substrate. Filtration by a sponge filter and a box filter.

I put a variety of pleco caves scattered around the bottom.

Water is 90% RODI water and 10% montgomery tap water, with periodic 25% water changes.

Initially I was feeding canned string beans and then blanched fresh string beans but these fouled the water, so I switched to frozen Edamame which I cook briefly and then remove them from their pods, and pop the beans out of their husks.

I also feed various types of algae wafers from various vendors.

For tankmates I have yellow neocardina shrimp and a small group of about 20 ember tetras.

Hard to say how often they spawn because I just see juveniles from time to time and I see juveniles of varying sizes as shown in the images.
