Regulating Water Pump Flow Rate

I'm in the process of rebuilding the sump, heater and UV light system under my Perfecto 5' 125 gallon aquarium. Goal is to stock with red spotted green discus from the Rio Nanay. Accordingly I need to slow down the flow rate of my (plus have a spare) Aqua-Mag Magnetic Drive Water Pump Mdl 9.5. It has way too much water movement given where these fish are collected.

Any suggestions on speed controllers are appreciated.

Kudos to Danner Manufacturing - sent email about curtailing water flow on the pump. They responded the same day with the following:

Thank you for your inquiry. No, we do not recommend any rheostats, variable speed controllers, etc. If you need to adjust the flow, we recommend a ball valve at the outlet size and do not throttle back to less than half of the gph the pump is rated for, as that could cause too much backpressure on the impeller assembly. You could find the ball valve at your local hardware, plumbing, pond supply, or aquarium store.

Hope this helps. Thank you.
