In The Tank

Our impossibly huge crush on mikrogeophagus ramirezi started when someone at our LFS told us, "They're really hard to keep. We don't recommend it for beginners. If we order them for you, we won't even let them touch our water." We left there, drove to our other LFS, and they had a bunch. The person there said, "Oh, they're great! One of my all-time favorites. I've never had problems." We bought a pair, and they started spawning. Have kept a bunch of different species since . . . but never quite got over our first fish-crush.
