Would you do this with Apistogramma's or Ram's?
Put multiple fish (6-8) in the same tank. Not sure yet which species. Tank is a 96-gallon custom, heavily planted, some driftwood, a light current population of small fish, I would add more rocks & wood to increase hiding places and territories. It's a show tank and breeding is not my goal.

Yes, I would do this with a 96 gallon tank. Sounds like there is enough space, hiding places, and lines of sight broken up. It will depend on the fish and their temperament though.
